BACKGROUND

According to IQAir AirVisual's 2019 World Air Quality Report, India has 21 of the 30 most polluted cities in the world, and 6 of the 10 most polluted. According to a report by the Composite Water Management Index, India’s projected water demand will be twice the water supply. India is ranked 120 among 122 countries in the water quality index. Urban India alone (about 1/4th of the population) generates 62 million tons of waste each year, of which a meagre 20% is treated. The World Bank estimates an increase of 4°C in average temperatures in India by the end of the century, if climate change continues unhindered.

Do these statistics scare you? They should! India has a plethora of environment-related issues that desperately need to be tackled. Ceteris paribus, the quality of life of the people of India is sure to worsen with the consistent increase in population. There are multiple reasons for the bad environmental condition, including poor government policy, inadequate infrastructure, and people’s unwavering attitudes.

We at Action FreePlay aim to do our part towards the environment by targeting the issue of people’s attitudes. We hope to harness the immense use of smartphones and video games across the Indian youth to get our environment-friendly messages across to the people, and ultimately change their attitudes, outlooks and daily actions. We are working towards a completely environmentally conscious society.
